JUROR’S STATEMENT

As an artist and art professor I am always making critical judgments about a human enterprise that is difficult to define, but I know it when I see it. As in everything else that we do in and about our lives, art has distinct levels of involvement and articulation. What I do as juror is determine what the artwork conveys to me and how well it does it. Concept, structure, selection and mastery of materials must fuse in a work of art for the viewer to witness and acknowledge its transformative presence, its resonance.
