April 2010 Regional Art Exhibit juror's bio -- Joyce Jarrett Thor:   Awards & Juror's Statement

Joyce Jarrett Thor is the co-owner and resident artist of Jarrett Thor Fine Arts in Colonial Beach, VA.  For years she has painted landscapes, still life, portraits, and other representational pieces.  Currently she is devoted primarily to large acrylic/mixed media abstracts.

She spent a decade learning from the best teachers at the Art League School in Alexandria, the Smithsonian and numerous workshops around the country.   She has won many awards -- the most recent was 2^nd Place at the Chesapeake College competition in Maryland.

Joyce retired from NASA as a Senior Executive, founded a consulting firm with her husband, and consulted around the world for many years.  Many of her paintings were inspired from her travels.  Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors at the Art League in Alexandria; the Colonial Beach Artists Guild, and the Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce.  She and her husband divide their time between Colonial Beach and Alexandria, VA.
