Juror’s Statement

I looked at the entries in three ways.  One was as the owner of an art gallery, then as a buyer representing the public and as an artist having entered many shows.

To begin, there are more good works than we can award.

I was pleased with the skill levels and carrying power of most of the entries.  As I try not to group them together in a blanket statement, I was still impressed at the different mediums being so well represented.

For the most part, the frames were good choices and showed off the work very well.  Occasionally I wanted to take the work out of the frame and let it stand on its’ own just to give it a chance.

As I looked over the work, every once in a while one just jumped out as being superior and executed with such sophistication as well as saying what the title portrays. This was very evident in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place choices.  I think you will agree with those choices.

What was more difficult were the honorable mentions because there were a few more deserving works than the four awards I could choose.  In the end, I was surprised at the representation of sculpture, pastel, watercolor and oil, not all accepted, but outstanding works just the same.

I’m looking forward to meeting the artists. Connie Canby, juror of Februaary 2009 Regional Art Exhibiit
