2010
Art of Recovery
call-for-entries:
The 2010 Art of Recovery exhibit is just around the corner.
This year, artwork will be featured at the Gallery at 915 (915 Lafayette Boulevard in downtown Fredericksburg) from May 7th thru May 23rd. After opening night (4pm - ~8pm), the gallery is open 11-4 Fridays-Sundays. Gallery hours may soon be extended to include Wednesdays too. The exhibit will then travel south for a brief exhibit at the Walkerton Tavern in Richmond, [http://www.co.henrico.va.us/departments/rec/recreation-centers---facilities/walkerton-tavern/] from May 26-May 29, reception details TBD. Another reminder e-mail will be sent out in April. The Walkerton Tavern venue is being coordinated in partnership with Henrico County CSB. Both exhibits will provide a forum for artists living with mental illness to showcase their talent and challenge mental health stigma. Art submissions can include drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, digital art, or mixed media.
Art featuring snow or made with snow will be frowned upon. Only kidding. Maybe.
Entries can come in

I'm requesting that all entries be submitted no later than April 23. However, artwork can be submitted earlier and reviewed on a kind of rolling admission. Selections will be made by April 28. Submissions need to include the artist's name (first or initials is fine), year of creation (if known), locale of artist, and price if interested in selling. As before, entries will need to come framed. Feel free to e-mail me for framing advice or clarification. If interested in selling artwork, I can help artists arrive at a competitive price. The Gallery at 915 will apply a very reasonable 20% commission on artwork sold.
If requested, I can also arrange to pick up selected work. Please coordinate with me in advance of the April 23 deadline.
The May 7th opening coincides with “First Fridays,” a monthly event when downtown galleries open in the evenings, often featuring new exhibits. May 7th also coincides with the annual Candlelight Vigil in observance of Mental Health Awareness month. The vigil will likely be held at Hurkamp Park in downtown Fredericksburg. These events are being coordinated so they compliment each other. All are welcome to attend both!
May will be here before we know it. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!
