Four new art shows to put on your must-see list this month:
This article "You Gotta Have Art" is from the April 8, 2010 Weekender
section of the Free Lance Star. There is a section on the exhibits of
Cathyann Burgess and Shirley Whelan in the Members' Gallery of FCCA with
an image of a painting by each artist. Other FCCA members with images of
their art work at other locations are Barbara Taylor Hall, Pat Thalman,
and Kathleen Willingham.
This detail from Reading with Poppa, a figurative painting from her 'Body Language' series, exemplifies the work of contemporary realist oil painter, Cathyann Burgess, from Richmond VA. Ms. Burgess' portrait work was recently recognized in the 2009 National Portrait Competition sponsored by the Jack Richeson and Co. Fine Art Supplies. She has studied with renowned portrait artists Nelson Shanks and Daniel Greene. Formerly, she created and chaired the Art Department for Benedictine High School in Richmond , before committing herself to full time painting in 2006. Her works are in both public and private collections. She is a member of FCCA and will show her figurative work in the Member's Gallery with Shirley Whelan in April.
