CURATOR’S CORNER 3/2/2010
The past months have been very rewarding, and I extend a heartfelt thank you to the many volunteers who have continued to make the FCCA a successful venue for artists. The Frederick Gallery exhibitions continue to receive record-breaking numbers of entries. The March “For & About Women” entries totaled 252 artworks from 103 artists representing 22 states with a final selection of 44 works from 42 artists. The February Regional Exhibit received 153 entries from 61 artists with a final selection of 54 works by 42 regional artists. The expertise of our jurors has resulted in well-received exhibits, which are drawing ever-larger audiences and numbers of entries. First Friday opening receptions draw an enthusiastic crowd of artists, members and patrons who support our exhibitions with their attendance. On First Fridays our jurors offer Juror’s Talks and announce exhibit awards at 6:00 p.m. Please invite your friends, relatives and guests to visit our historic gallery. I look forward to continued progress at FCCA, and welcome your ideas and suggestions for the future. Over the next few months the Frederick Gallery will get a face lift with repair and repainting of the walls by our energetic members Dennis and Rachel Carroll with their volunteer helpers. Thanks to Jack Lynham for recently installing an improved method of hanging exhibit banners on our building. Hubert Jackson created the “For & About Women” banner, a new way to publicize our juried exhibits. Thanks to Dave Tanks, docents can now control the lighting in the Members’ Gallery from the docent’s desk. Look around, and you will see evidence of many other improvements at FCCA provided by our dedicated volunteers and supporters. As a non-profit, all volunteer organization, the FCCA is always open to offers of help with opening receptions, staging exhibitions, maintenance of our historic building, and providing docents for our visitors. Monetary donations and corporate sponsorships help to sustain our gallery. Volunteer docents allow our gallery to be open to the public, and additional volunteers are needed to insure that our visitors are always welcomed. If you can offer your time or assistance, please contact me or any member of the Board of Trustees. Thank you for your
support,
