Frederick Gallery Curator's Notes & Letters

CURATOR’S CORNER  11/7/2010

Carrol Morgan, Curator of FCCA's Frederick Gallery

Over the past two years, artist participation in FCCA exhibitions has increased substantially.  We have drawn entries from a growing number of regional artists and an impressive number of national artists with respected reputations.  We continue to draw a diverse range of qualified and experienced jurors. I  look forward to working with the new Board of Trustees and to future exhibition success in 2011.

We need to increase our patronage and volunteer base.  I hope that we can bring a larger number of art collectors to our gallery and reward the efforts of our artists with increasing sales.  We can increase our exhibition success with expanded support by volunteer docents who insure that our gallery is open to the public.  Thank you to all the volunteers who devote many hours to keeping our galleries open.

Our website has become a prime access for information about our exhibits.  The website provides downloadable entry forms, artist contracts, exhibit catalogs, Juror Statements, images of exhibit installations, and information about future exhibits and ongoing art events at FCCA.  Our increased website visibility has contributed to our recognition as a favored venue of many national artists who include their acceptance in our gallery in their resumes.  Thank you to Jeanne Tanks for a job well done as FCCA Webmaster.

Thank you to Bob Worth, my assistant curator, who has been an invaluable co-worker in the Frederick Gallery, assisting the visiting jurors and providing support.

Thank you to the faithful take-down and shipping crew for insuring that all artwork is carefully handled and returned.  Thanks to Barbara Hall, Ann Parks, Bev Bley, Dorothy Bourdon, Kay Roscoe, Penny Hicks, Jeff Messmore, Shirley and Carroll Rush, and Patricia Murray.

Thank you to the skilled hanging crew for their handsome installation of our Frederick Gallery exhibits.  Thanks to Bob Worthy, Heidi Lewis, Donna Coley, Kate Logan, John Nichols, Jeff Messmore, Lynn Mehta, and Luke Michaels.

Additional thanks to Kathleen Willingham and Barbara Posey for their coverage of exhibitions in the FCCA Newsletter; Ru Rok and Sandy Leigh Skipper for publicity work; Maura Harrison for graphic designs; Creative Color, Inc. for our print needs; and Hubert Jackson for our outdoor exhibit banners.

Our historic gallery owes its continued existence to many behind the scenes volunteers.  Thanks to Jack Lynham, Joe Wilkinson and Dave Tanks for their continued vigilance over our building needs.  Thanks to Janet Van de Burg for her continuing work on our beautiful garden which draws visitors and provides a lovely setting for FCCA.

I will continue to try to meet the challenges of the curator position and welcome suggestions or comments.  If you know of someone who qualifies as a prospective juror, please provide me with their contact information.

Thank you for your support.
